Shadows of Brimstone League Rules

The game is meant to be played with rules as written, with the most recent printings and erratas for shadows of Brimstone in effect. In order for a League session to be valid, it must be recorded on the journal sheets of every participating player, of which there must be at least two. Players may play only one character at a time.

Other than this, there are a few house rules implemented with the aim of assisting cooperative play.

-Characters keep either a record of items they have obtained, copies/images of the cards in questions, or may bring their own copy of a card as a play aid, but all cards in the play copy of the game are returned to the appropriate deck after the mission, and may be drawn and obtained again by the same or subsequent groups.

-All XP earned is added to a communal pool, which is divvied out evenly after all players have finished their adventure, not including travel or the town stay. The XP, once divided by the number of players, is rounded up to the nearest 5. Players may increase their individual XP totals by training with soldiers or through town events, and may lose it through similar town events or travel hazards.

-Characters may transfer money to other characters, but it must be noted on both character’s journal sheets. The same rule goes for items. If a character ever goes beyond their maximum carrying weight, they may give another participating character items rather than discarding them (unless they are discarded per an event).

-Players may play any legal Shadows of Brimstone Character class they possess, or play any of the base game classes. Those classes are: Priest, Lawman, Rancher, Indian Scout, Gunslinger, US Marshal, Bandito, and Saloon Girl. The classes out of Forbidden Fortress, Assassin, Samurai, Monk, and Sorcerer, are also acceptable. So long as a player can prove they own a class or is playing one of the 12 aforementioned classes, they may use a ‘stand-in’ miniature of the same or similar size.

-Characters may not play The Drifter, regardless of whether or not they own him. He is simply too unbalancing to gameplay.

-All items gained through the adventure belong to their respective characters - if the party as a whole gains an item, it is sold and the gold split as evenly as possible, with any undecided upon remainder lost. The party may elect instead for the item to go to a particular player or the gold to be split differently, but these votes must be unanimous.

-The Lantern can be carried by either one party member, or travel clockwise around the table, spending one turn with each party member. If the party elects to use a player’s special lantern, that player carries it for the duration of the mission. This vote need not be unanimous, but it must be a majority or the normal lantern is used.

-Players may keep track of their characters however they please, but must have a Journal Page substantiating XP earned, gold gained, and items found. It’s proper to take people’s word on the issue and only ask for proof if it’s really required - the honor system should be satisfactory. Remember, if push comes to shove and the item isn’t on a record sheet, it doesn’t exist. A proper character sheet should include a character’s Name, Class, Level, Total XP, and Gold.

-THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE. This is a game, and we’re all here to have fun, so be kind and respectful to your fellow players!

Inheritance

Sometimes things happen, and the adventure doesn’t go according to plan. Should a character die during play, they may be resurrected as normal that session - if, for whatever reason, resurrection isn’t possible, the deceased character will be retired from league play. You may choose up to one weapon and one miscellaneous item to transfer to a new level 1 character.
